My project aims to preserve representations of nowness through organizing random journal entries from the last 12 years of my life and fitting them into a time capsule.
This consists of different themed publications– love, loss, newness, and prayer. My idea of nowness is that it is fleeting whereas my chosen themes are inseparable from the human experience and therefore transcendent. I chose to use excerpts from my journal as they are authentic recordings of different moments of nowness in time, demonstrating how the same cycle of human emotions have been repeated throughout history and will continue to be experienced far into the future.
The two key points that needed to be communicated to the viewer (a future family member looking through books in my family’s library) is that the book is from me to them, and that it should be opened in the year 2123.
